How is it possible that today is December 1st already? Like every year, the weeks & days fly by at an increasingly fast pace.

In years past, I’ve offered up a bit of an advent calendar during the 24 days leading up to Christmas. In 2020 & 2021 I shared with you our Cheesy Christmas advent calendar. Last year, we didn’t cheese things up and I opted instead to walk you around special ornaments on our Christmas tree.

This year, I thought I’d do something a bit different. How about a walk through history?

This year, I’m going to share with you some special Christmas memories through the years; quick glimpses into moments that have warmed our hearts through the yule-tide years.

A European Christmas

The first memory I’ll share with you is a Christmas-time visit with friends Bart & Wanda Zintel in Holland.

We arrived at Frankfurt airport (where the photo above was taken – Sophie & Dominic are sitting on top of the luggage cart) and then made our way to the Netherlands.

Bart was best man at our wedding, we met when he and his wife, Liz & I toured French-speaking Europe together with The Continental Singers in the 90s. It had been years since we’d seen them and we took advantage of a Christmas visit to Liz’s family in Belgium, to stop in.

Bart conducted a choir and they were giving a Christmas concert during the time of our visit. We’d planned it in advance and I sang a quick part in the concert. It was very, very nice to make music together again.

For whatever reason, I have no photos of us adults together, nor the concert… just photos with our kids hanging out. Oh well…

Friendship…

This first memory reminds me of the following verse from Proverbs…

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart:
so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.
Proverbs 27.9

Friends who offer hearty counsel (might I add, Godly counsel, biblical counsel) do indeed rejoice the heart. I have found it to be true.
