Welcome to day 9 of this year’s walk down Christmas Memory Lane!
Good news… we’re staying put in Saint John. Well… at least for the beginning. We’ll be preparing for some holiday travel, but won’t actually go anywhere.
You’ll see what I mean…
Is this first Christmas Memory post you’re seeing?
You can get caught up by starting back on day 1 to understand this year’s theme.

Christmas Stockings
Today, there are two memories that I want to share with you, and the first, involves these massive Christmas stockings that the kids are straddling.
There was a lady in our church, many years ago, who, whenever a new child was born, in one of the church families, she’d knit them one of these stockings. You can see the green feet, the red rows with Christmas wreaths, green with candy canes, a white row that says “Jesus ❤️ Me”, a red row with Christmas trees and another white row with the child’s name knit in.
Wow! As someone who does intricate hand-work, I have a good sense of the amount of work that went in to a gift like that and have an enormous appreciation for the value of the gift.
Let’s be clear… given their sheer size, they’re also “valuable” in another sense… it takes a lot to fill them.😆

Traveling Pets & Treats
In the photo with the arrows, you can also see two things.
“Pun my soul!” (as my grandmother would say) … I don’t know what possessed us to take these pets on Christmas vacation with us, but if you look closely, you’ll see a pair of black rabbit ears sticking up out of the Pampers’ box. This was one of our pet rabbits that was evidently making the trip to McKee’s with us.
Next to him, on the left in the photo, you have to look verrrry closely, but you’ll see the head of one of our hens sticking up out of the box. Yes… you’re not imagining it … one of the hens joined the rabbit, and the humans, in preparation for a weekend in the country.
Amazing the things we did (likely because the kids asked for it).
The green arrow is pointing to a package of Liz’s homemade waffles that were also making the trip… very much intended for human consumption!
A Great Gift
We received a great gift in those stockings, something of great value, but Christmas is the celebration of another gift, one that surpasses them all… hope for the present & hope for the future.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6.23
Thank you sharing this memory and…
