Well Christmas arrived early this year… and it looks a lot like Gramma!
But first… let me give a quick overview of the week…
Well Christmas arrived early this year… and it looks a lot like Gramma!
But first… let me give a quick overview of the week…
Transparent post alert: Gonna share some things in today’s post that I’m not sure if I should really share or not but to some degree, writing helps to get things out of my head and it’s a way of processing them.
This week, we’ve sat under the threat of some dark clouds. But we’ve also seen God’s hand at work… there have been silver linings.
The picture you see here is what is hidden under, and what holds up, the pointed, slate roof of one of the towers at Brézé Castle. What looks like a simple conical profile, from the outside, is no fewer than 56 wooden beams that come out from a central wooden key and which form the structure… the skeleton on which the slate roof rests. The slate stone ‘shingles’ can only serve their purpose effectively if the frame beneath them is solid.
So it is with missions and missionaries.
I never quite know how to refer to it. On one hand, it is the French national youth convention, but it’s also somewhat of a de-facto European youth convention as well, given that people come from all over!
Without question… it’s well worth their travel!
Continue readingThat phrase has a familiar ring to it… “Follow me,”
“…. and I will make you fishers of men.” said Jesus.
“… As I follow Christ.” said Paul.
We only ever really grow if we have some-one to follow and eventually learn from. Kids follow their parents and learn about life, apprentices follow their mentors to learn a trade, and Christians… we follow Christ and those who’ve left a good example by doing just that… following him.
Continue readingThis week, the fall school vacations will come to a close and we’ll head into a busy couple of weekends in the Paris area – hello kilometers!
In the face of busyness, I’m thankful that prayer takes us higher.
Continue readingIt’s Saturday morning and as I sit down to write… the house is still quiet. Liz is up but still in “stealth mode” and the kids haven’t yet stirred. No telling when that will change. Pollux, surprisingly is not feverishly wagging his tail and staring deep into our eyes… his way of telling us “It’s time for a walk!”
If I can hear one thing… it’s via anticipation and it’s your voice… yes you.
“Has he fallen off his rocker!? It’s not thanksgiving… either in Canada OR the US!”
Continue readingThe kids made it through their first 6 weeks of school and have begun a 2-week break (the school year here is broken down into 6-week + 2-week cycles). Need I say how glad they are for the change of pace?
I dare say that Liz is glad for the break as well as she’ll be able to push ahead with some translation work that she’s needing to wrap up in the next couple of weeks.
For now though… let me give you a quick run-down of the past two weeks…
Continue readingWe’re beginning our busiest weekend in a long time and would appreciate your prayers.
That’s a lot of driving before starting the school week back up on Monday!
Thank you Lord for opportunities to be useful to others in different parts of France!
I’ll tell you all about this weekend, next weekend.
God bless you today and thank you for your prayers.
(ps. If you’re wondering about the photo… putting a chair in the bathroom was the only way to some early morning reading without waking the kids! …. oh the things we do! 😂)
