Home-Away-from-Home

Well…. that’s the end of trying to squeeze just a few more days out of summer!

– Timo returned to school this week.
– Dominic started the new Bible School year.
– … and I start teaching on Monday.

September is officially in full swing, and there’s lots going on!

Last Sunday

… Last Sunday we had the Brochus with us. Before he ministered however, Sophie and Timo shared testimonies about their time at North American Youth Congress back in July.

Most of the people in our church could never even imagine a meeting of that size. For most of them, the largest church meeting they’ve attended would be betweenn 800-1,000, during our annual youth convention.

It’s faith-building to talk about some of the things that they experienced, and it also serves to whet the whistle of those who might like to attend the European Youth Congress, which will take place next year in Barcelona, Spain (relatively close by European standards).

Ocean Time

Yesterday, Liz, Sophie & I took the day and headed out to the ocean… the Île de Ré to be precise.

It had been a while since we’d had a proper day at the ocean and having grown up along the shores of the Bay of Fundy, proximity to the ocean is something I miss. Sophie & I share that gene.

I had a virtual teachers’ meeting from 8-9:00am, after which we hit the road for our more or less 2-hour drive.

We managed to not bake in the sun… despite the sun’s best efforts. Like back home, the water is frigid when you first make contact, but after a bit, it’s fine to wade out a little further. It is after all, still the Atlantic Ocean.

One thing that is different however, is the timing of the heat. Back home, it seems to me that the hottest time of the day was typically between 11:00am and 2:00pm. Not so here. In France, the hottest times of the day are more between 3-5:00pm. One of those strange little differences we’re coming to get used to.

After our time near the water, we headed across the island to Saint-Martin-en-Ré for ice cream and some supper. It’s an old walled in town with UNESCO classified fortifications and a protected inner harbour that comes alive at night with restaurants surrounding the port.

We got home just before midnight and were well pleased with our day… thankful for a chance to feel the salt water on our ankles once again!

Dominic & Melanie

Our relative newlyweds are up in Melun for Bible School which starts today, but tomorrow, they’ll take to the wild blue yonder and head to the USA for a couple of weeks. Besides seeing family in Indiana, they’ll spend a couple of days in Indianapolis for General Conference as well. What a treat for them!

In their absence, Timo & Soph will pick up the reins in terms of youth meetings.

Appreciate your prayers for our church and our family.
God is moving and good things are happening.
God bless you today!
