#3GoodThings – #54

(Written Wednesday, March 13, 2019)

Today was like one big long sigh of relief.

Let me tell you about it.

Today’s #3GoodThings

  1. A full day of sun: Even though temperatures are generally back down to seasonal levels (11-14 C / 52-57 F), it was still nice to see an honest-to-goodness full day of sun. It got the day off to a good start. There were Spring clean-up things I’d been wanting to get done around the yard and the day was ripe to do so.
  2. Yard work: In today’s sales flyers, one of the local garden centers was having a sale on lawn mowers and we needed one. We had a well-used electric one, but after a incident last year that left the cord plug melted I deemed it to unsafe and we retired it. Problem – it’s hard to get a decent mower here for less than 400-500€ (over 600$) and we just didn’t have the finances for that. We looked seriously at one of the old rotary-blade, hand-pushed mowers (I used them regularly as a kid), but with only a 38cm (15″) cutting width…. uhhh, no. 🙂 Today’s flyer, however, announced a full sized one at just 299€ (still, nearly $500 CAD). That was the cheapest I’ve seen here and it had a 3yr warranty (most only have 2). The ad indicated no rainchecks and only a certain number for all of France, so I didn’t hesitate. I’m thankful for flash-sales that let me get our lawn mowed (First time since last July – drought-like conditions took care of it last fall). While I mowed and tidied up garden beds & such, the boys took care of cutting up some branches that I’d trimmed off of the silk tree (Albizia julibrissin) and moving them over to the bonfire pit area.
  3. Our neighbours blessed us again. A elderly family member recently passed away and they wanted to give us a few furniture items that they needed to get rid of but didn’t have the patience to sell through Le Bon Coin (French version of Craigslist / Kijiji). One is a beautiful little marble topped table that belonged to our neighbour’s grandmother. That will be a treasured piece. This family has been a continual source of blessing for us… not just materially, but socially as well.

I’m thankful for a full day of high-test productivity outside after looking at “straggly & in need of tidying” since the warm weather last month gave the lawn an early start! Topped off with friends!

(oh yes… they also sent us home with more mimosa!)
