This is the Pont au Change Bridge, in Paris.
One of Paris’ most famous monikers is “The City of Light” (La Ville Lumière) and we associate that primarily with the myriad of lights that illuminate the streets, bridges and monuments around the city: making it a truly magical place to be, particularly at night.
The origin of the name is disputed… is it so named:
For the early adoption of public lighting to dissuade would-be criminals? or
For the intellectual centre that it became… philosophizing over new ideas?
Either way… the end result is beautiful.
More beautiful still though is Jesus’ claim that he is the light of the world.
In a world that seems darker and darker he stands in stark contrast to it… calling…
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
“I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
