We’re used to getting fresh eggs from the various times we’ve had chickens.

At present, we only have one chicken … so it’s not so much a question of getting fresh eggs, as it is of getting a fresh egg, from time to time. But this morning I woke up to fresh fish eggs on the wall of out little nano-aquarium (9L/ 2gallon).

Liz’s reaction… 🙄
“But hon… it’s not my fault!” 😆

We’ll see… they normally eat their eggs anyway so it’s likely a non-issue.

This morning, rather than sitting down with a hot chocolate, I’m sipping on a mug of hot water, honey and lemon.

Yep… it’s that time of year.

Sophie came home with something 2 weeks ago, shared it with Liz and last weekend I Started feeling the effects. It’s been a long week of having to teach, with a cold & using a mask… therefore going back ‘n’ forth between foggy glasses and a stuffed nose.

One consolation though, is that the honey in my mug is from our own bees. Speaking of bees…

Welcome to October!

Wait a minute… did I just say “October”?
I did. Difficult to believe. August was a blur and September seemed to be a bit of a ‘tail wagging the dog’ kind of month, getting caught up, and now here we are in October.

Well… warm up your coffee (because I’m a little late publishing today) and let’s catch up, shall we?

Have you ever heard that word before?

I’m not sure that it actually is a word (if you ask the official dictionary folks), but a google search quickly reveals that I’m not the first to come up with it or use it. It can be loosely defined as the following:

– The state of being surrounded with hectic-ness (another admittedly dubious word)
– The state of barely manageable craziness.

How’s that? Better?

It almost feels like home.

To date, our weather this summer has been more ‘East Coast of Canada’ than it has been what we’ve typically experienced in western France. The past couple of years has seen us suffering from temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s, but this year… we’re pulling out sweaters… even during the day on rainy days where temps between 19 and 22˚C have not been uncommon.

I’m not complaining…

… you, on the other hand, would definitely have reason to complain, given the lack of regularity with my blogging of late. Not sure what is up…. but I’ve definitely fallen off the wagon. Let’s try to climb back on shall we….

What could be more Canadian than combining red & white?
What could be more French than lavender?

Put them together and you have the story of our life…

This year, when potting up a small fig tree I rooted, I opted to surround the base with red & white petunias. Such a vibrant contrast was going to be my little nod to home. I’d taken lots of cuttings from the two mother petunia plants & figured I’d fill several flower boxes in time for July 1st (Canada Day). Alas, the snails & slugs made quick work of the poor, defenseless cuttings and only a couple survived.

The potted fig is in a spot surrounded by several lavender plants… also started from rooted cuttings.
