Yes… you read that right. We’re almost home. Oh, not for good yet – the Lord’s not done with us here in Châtellerault – but we will be home for a short stint – we fly out Wednesday.
You could be forgiven for thinking that we’re trying to escape the heat, but that’s not the reason for our travel home…
(notice that the 33 degrees was at 7:52 pm… PLEASE… I thought the heat wave was supposed to be over!)
We’re crossing the ocean to attend my mom’s wedding. It’s been 8 years since my dad passed away and now she’s met someone who makes her feel like a kid again. I’ll share a pic or two after the wedding.
… for now, onto this week’s post.

After a long bus ride yesterday, today’s trip from Bourges to Paris would be a cinch in comparison!
Initially, the plan was that we’d leave the group in Bourges and head straight back to Châtellerault, given that they were in a straight line to Paris and that missionary Paul Brochu (overall coordinator for #AYCFrance19 on the French side) would be meeting them there.
In then end, however, we stayed with them for longer than planned… let me tell you about that…

Day 3 of our #AYCFrance19 tour took us to Bordeaux, without question one of the winemaking capitals of France. For much of Day 4 we would retrace our steps and head back north as far as Tours, before heading toward the center of France to the city of Bourges, in the Berry province.

Day 2 of our time with #AYCFrance19 took place in our little corner of France – Châtellerault, but Day 3 would take us to the 6th largest city in the country with some 800,000 people: The city of Bordeaux.

In as much as Day 1 was a tourism day, Day 2 was their first day of ministry in western France, and it happened in our neck of the woods…
(Incidentally… the feature photo – the letters AYC, spelled out with team members – was taken in Châtellerault, during our prayer walk)

For the past week, the French churches have been hosting #AYCFrance19, one of the UPCI General Youth Division’s 2019 Apostolic Youth Corps mission trips. Young people from all over the United States and Canada travel to different parts of the world to work with local missionaries, encouraging local churches and believers.
We’ve been privileged to spend the last week with the team here in France.
There’s really too much to share in a single post, so I’ll spread it over 5 – one post for each of the days we spent with the group personally.
The closest day to our heart will be tomorrow – day two – the day they spent in Châtellerault. Nevertheless, every day was special… let’s begin with day 1…

As promised last week… I’m going to tell you about Pentecost Weekend in France. Today I also get to tell you a bit about #AYCFrance19 and about an old friendship that’s also written the first words of a new chapter.
Ready? … Let’s dive in…

As I sit to write about some of what’s been going on of late, the wind is howling.
Although we’re about 2 hours from the coast, whenever there are winds out there, we feel the effects of them here as well. Gusts are up to 100 km/h today, which is enough that we put away anything fairly light and move medium-weight items closer to the house for a bit of shelter.
The feature image is one I took this week at the massive St. Stephen Cathedral in Bourges. I’ll tell you about it below…

A couple of months ago, Sophie was asked to record a short video about her experience of taking the big step of moving away & living on the other side of the world as a Missionary Kid (an “MK”)…
